Favourite Childhood Books - Oh, The Places You'll Go!

As a child, Jonathan was enchanted by Dr. Seuss. He was drawn to the delightfully bizarre stories and loved how the words were as vibrant and colourful as the illustrations. But it was during a later chapter in his life, when a Dr. Seuss book made the biggest impact. For Jonathan’s high school graduation his Aunt gave him a copy of Oh, The Places You’ll Go! with a personalized inscription. It spoke to him during a confusing coming of age experience. “We didn’t know what we wanted to do and where we’d go and if it was the right path or the wrong path. This book really resonated with me and led me on the right journey.”

That journey led Jonathan into the world of sales, where self-confidence is paramount. He often thinks about his favourite lines in the book ‘you can steer yourself in any direction you choose. You’re on your own. And you know what you know. And YOU are the guy who’ll decide where to go. He’s used that sage advice to thrive in an unpredictable industry that relies heavily on inherent ability. He has faith in his own skills doesn’t obsess about things he can’t control. “You may not know it all, but you do know things and you’ll learn more as you continue on down the path. What you do know is actually going to guide you”

Jonathan doesn’t necessarily see himself as a creative person, but he’s part of a world that thrives off creative energy and Dr. Seuss was an early portal into that world. That exposure has helped him relate to people from all different types of backgrounds and sell a variety of shows. “I think Dr. Seuss had a way of tapping into your beliefs and your imagination and trying to get you to think outside the box. He was very colourful and he made you kind of see all the colours in the rainbow.”
